President William Ruto hosted the Jubilee lawmakers at the statehouse on Wednesday, a day after meeting the ODM MPs on Tuesday. It is believed that the lawmakers who are part of the opposition team met the president in an effort to work together, a move that is perceived as a betrayal of their Azimio Coalition.

The visit by the 30 Jubilee MPs has stirred controversy among some of the Azimio Coalition members who do not support the move.

Through his Twitter account, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina asked for intervention from the former president, Uhuru Kenyatta.

Disciplinary case against the Jubilee MPs

“The Hon Jeremiah Kioni, please Ask Uhuru to come and speak to your members or all of them will fold!” Read the tweet.

The Jubilee Part secretary general Jeremiah Kioni was also against the move by the lawmakers terming it as a disciplinary case. According to Kenyans, Kioni said that disciplinary measures have against the defiant members already begun.

“I am not in support of the meeting. Attempts to get my opinion on the matter were denied by the members. Those MPs in the State House meeting have never attended our rallies. That does not in any way affect our activities. We will however deal with the issue with our internal party structures” Kioni told Kenyans.co.ke.

Among the Jubilee lawmakers who attended the Wednesday meeting at the statehouse include the former Murang’a Women representative Sabina Chege, Nyamira Women representative Jerusha Mongina, and Eldas MP Adan Keynan.

Meanwhile, a section of the ODM party members has expressed dissatisfaction with their members who visited the statehouse on Tuesday, among them the Governor of Siaya County, James Orengo.

“We disassociate ourselves with a visit to State House, Nairobi by a group of ODM MPs. The visit by the MPs was personal and not sanctioned by any of our official ODM party organs.” Noted Governor Orengo through his Twitter handle.

Among the ODM part lawmakers who met President Ruto on Tuesday included the Lang’ata MP James Odiwuor (Jalang’o), Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda, Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo, and Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda among others.
